Founded in 1869, the San Francisco Dental Society is part of the American Dental Society and the California Dental Association. The society represents more than 1,200 dental professionals in the county and city of San Francisco.
As the voice of dentists in the area, the San Francisco Dental Society advocates for improved dental and oral health in a number of areas. Most recently, the society endorsed Proposition V, which passed with a majority of 62 percent of votes and will result in a 1 percent tax on the distributors of sugar-sweetened beverages.
In another measure designed to improve the oral health in the community, the society endorsed Proposition 56, which raises the tax on tobacco by $2. The proposition also passed with a 62 percent majority.
